Casting Workshop

 

The McMaster Materials Student Technical Society (MSTS) is holding a casting workshop sponsored by MetSoc of CIM. The cost of this three day workshop per person is $500 and the seminars will be free for McMaster University students. Training will be done by David Schmidt from Finite Solutions Inc. (USA) and François Audet from Foundry Solutions Metallurgical Services Inc. (technical support for Canada).

 

Why attend? Avoid costly trials and errors, maximize casting quality and minimize production cost. SOLIDCast™ for solidification defects; FLOWCast™ for metal flow related defects and OPTICast™ to optimize metal yield % and process parameters automatically. Use your evaluation license to solve your challenge.

What’s included: Installation of the software on your laptop for a 45 days evaluation; USB drive with all training material, videos and case studies, lunch on February 20th and 21st, coffee and snacks every day, networking with students.

 

Note: The student seats are limited to 40. Registration ends on January 31st.

MSTS Speaker Night

McMaster Materials Students Technical Society had the pleasure of hosting Rob Martin, General Manager, Metallurgy, Quality, and Continuous Improvement at ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Rob gave a presentation to us about his career in ferrous metallurgy and the past, present, and future of the steel industry.

 

Following the presentation, Rob, other AMD employees (including recent graduates and an HR representative) and student members gathered together for a social evening.

Resume Making Workshop

A 1.5 hour workshop for students who would soon be graduating hosted by Shannon Clark from ArcelorMittal Dofasco. During this workshop students worked towards refining current resumes and worked towards properly constructing their resumes based on industry needs.

 

Meet and Greet

McMaster MSTS had its first get together event with materials science and engineering students. Over 40 students attended the event. Ms. Shannon Clark and Ms. Maria Cipriani from ArcelorMittal Dofasco also attended the evening event and awarded prizes to students for participating in a questionnaire. They also gave an introduction of the Materials Advantage chapter to students.
